FASTING

Fasting is found in many books of the bible including Matthew, Psalms, Esther, Joel, Luke, and more.
Fasting is mentioned in the bible many times. Believers in biblical scripture would FAST AND PRAY. A lot of times, before making decisions about something very important, or for a need that was on their heart. Jesus himself fasted. Fasting is going without food, (or anything else you enjoy regularly in your life), ON PURPOSE, for a spiritual reason. Fasting is good for seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit. Also, to rid an unclean spirit from your body. Fasting is spiritual, biblical, and life-changing. I have incorporated fasting into my life and can testify to this.
Fasting helps you focus on God, and weaken the desires of the flesh. This strengthens your spirit. Satan does NOT want you to know this! But I am here to tell you about this truth in the word of God and I encourage you to look into spiritual fasting and pray about it to see if this is something you feel led to try as well.
Important things
to note:
If this is something that you are interested in, PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT FASTING WITHOUT A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IN PRAYER, IS ONLY DIETING. Doing this for the purpose of spiritual reasons in your relationship with God is what we are talking about here.

Before your fast, ask yourself, "What are my intentions for this fast?" Fasting just to get what you want from God is not the mindset that anyone should have during a fast. Remember, fasting is spiritual and a faithful part of our relationship with God. God's will is not ours and when he doesn't give us what we want, there is a reason. Sometimes to protect us and other times, because he has a better plan for us.
Jeremiah 29:11 says:
"For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end"

My story:
There are many different ways to fast and many different types of fasts. You can skip a meal/meals, or there's the Daniel fast, intermittent fasting, 1-day fasts, 3-day fasts, 21-day fasts....many different options. You can do your research on spiritual fasting, and pray, to see what you feel led to do.
For me personally, I started off by fasting from television. I stopped watching my favorite show and replaced that time with prayer instead. Then, I did intermittent fasting; I would eat supper the night before a fast, but not eat anything after 6 pm that night as well. I would fast the rest of that night, skip breakfast the next day, and I would drink only liquids-(mostly water.) I would not eat lunch until around 1 pm-2 pm. In that window of my fast, I would pray, read scripture, and journal about what I read and how God spoke to me through the word, because that's what helps me. There are times when I will fast and just talk with God in prayer. I did this off and on, as I felt led to, for a couple of years. This has changed my whole life and helped strengthen my relationship with God.

After incorporating intermittent fasting into my life like this, I felt led to do a 1-day fast because I felt a calling on my life. Through the 1-day fast, I was able to rid doubt, worry, and fear from my body. I was then stronger in spirit and able to step into the calling of my life. I felt like a weight had lifted off of my shoulders and I felt free. It was an amazing experience and I can't explain the PEACE that I experienced during that particular fast.

Strengthen your spirit through fasting.
