For my first Blog post, I felt led to talk about SELF-DISCIPLINE. Practicing self-discipline daily has helped me tremendously. Not to say that I do not slip up sometimes because none of us are perfect, but I can say with confidence, that when you PRACTICE self-discipline every day, you WILL see positive results if your heart is truly in it. Self-discipline is simply SELF-CONTROL. I want to share with you what I have learned and what has helped me.

This is something that I can testify to:
Maintaining self-control brings you a sense of PEACE.

For example, if you are someone who struggles with impatience, then you know that when you let yourself become impatient, it feeds a mindset of frustration and aggravation. These emotions will literally ruin your whole day and put you in a bad mood. There is no peace in a bad mood. I can testify to this because patience was my weakness; but when I acknowledged my weakness of impatience and practiced self-control, it helped me AVOID all of the negative emotions that come with impatience. Then, I was better able to MAINTAIN SELF-DISCIPLINE. It seems like such a simple concept, but it has a powerful effect. Think about it. Makes sense!
That is why it is so important to DISCIPLINE ourselves every day. In doing so, we AVOID conflict, make better choices, and can feel more at peace. The first step in practicing self-discipline is acknowledging that you need it. This was something I had to do. I had to understand that I should not be too proud to admit that I needed to work on myself. Being prideful was crippling me and destroying my character. We must push pride out of the way, humble ourselves, and acknowledge that we need to work on ourselves. This benefits us, in so many ways, and grows our moral character.
Maybe, for you it is not your impatience that needs self-control. Perhaps there is another area in your life, that you know needs self-discipline. Remember, we ALL have our weaknesses. There's always room for growth and that's okay! I encourage you to examine areas in your life that are weak points and start practicing self-control in those areas. I promise that you will be glad you did!
Here's a fact: Self-control is actually one of the FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT in the bible. The bible calls it: TEMPERANCE. So, when we practice self-discipline and maintain the best we can, we can start to bear good fruit from that.
Let's sum it up:
*ACKNOWLEDGE the weakness
*PRACTICE self-control
*MAINTAIN self-discipline
(I like to call this my "3-Step Plan of Action")
Writing things down helps me, so if this is something that would help you, I encourage you to write this down as well and start your 3-Step Plan of Action TODAY! I pray this blesses you, In Jesus name!
